Artist Statement

We are blessed to live in a wondrous world filled with astounding beauty. One can discover incredible harmony and tranquility in the smallest detail or grandest expanse. We can find our meaning, and validate our beliefs, in our stewardship of the earth and the life it supports. Take some time and experience the awe-inspiring works of our Creator. As the psalmist said “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.”

As I watch habitats dramatically shrink and man continue to impose his will on the earth, I am resolved to chronicle the beauty of the natural world for our descendants before we completely desecrate it. Our world is a reflection of the nature of our Creator. Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” John Keats, the English poet, wrote in 1819 “Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty.” God’s nature, then, His essence, is beauty. He gave us the ability to create art. The visual arts encompass fine art, including photographs. Many scientists, who study nature in more specific and organized ways, also share the conviction that nature is beautiful; the French mathematician, Jules Henri Poincaré (1854–1912) said: “The scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living. Of course I do not here speak of that beauty which strikes the senses, the beauty of qualities and of appearance; not that I undervalue such beauty, far from it, but it has nothing to do with science; I mean that more profound beauty which comes from the harmonious order of the parts and which a pure intelligence can grasp.”

I want you to know just how precious the natural world is and the relevance of its preservation. We need wilderness; now more than ever. Experiencing the untamed world becomes ever more important to balance our lives as we become increasingly enslaved to our own devices. There exists within the natural world a deep connection unlike anything that can be found in today’s intense world of instant gratification. There is a certain freedom that comes only when we are immersed in the natural world. I embrace the natural world of our Creator to experience Him, and I hope you will too. My fervor for the beauty of His nature has shaped every aspect of my life. I’d like to introduce you to the natural world I know, through my photographs, to show you the amazing, beautiful and powerful forces working on our planet. This is the natural world, His world, through my eyes.
