Flaming Gorge
The multi-colored badlands along the Green River, glowing in the afternoon light, are the source of the name for this expanse in Wyoming given when Major John Wesley Powell and his company saw the sun reflecting off the brilliant, flaming red rocks as they explored the Green and Colorado Rivers.
