Kootenai River

Idaho

One of our country’s wildest rivers, the Kootenai River provides critical habitat for several rare and threatened native fish species, as well as wildlife like grizzly bear and woodland caribou. The river runs directly through the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge near Bonners Ferry, Idaho. It is one of the uppermost major tributaries of the Columbia River, the largest North American river that empties into the Pacific Ocean. Photo © copyright by Robert Faucher.
