Pictograph Cave SP
Montana
Pictograph Cave SP, located near Billings, Montana, features three caves with ancient rock paintings (pictographs), some over 2100 years old. The park is reknowned for its archeologic findings. Equally attractive is the fault-block montain looming above the trail to the caves. These mountains are formed by the uplift of large blocks of the earth's crust along fault lines. Examples are found throughout the world: Sierra Nevada, California; Teton Range, Wyoming; Harz Mountins, Germany; Vosges Mountains, France. Photo © copyright by Robert Faucher.
