Upper Death Hollow

Utah

The canyon in Death Hollow Wilderness, carved by Escalante River is crossed by the Hell's Backbone Bridge. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the road was completed in 1933 allowing vehicles to drive between Boulder and Escalante. Mail and other goods continued to be transported into boulder by mule until 1940. Today this is a Scenic Byway to drive during good weather. Photo © copyright by Robert Faucher.
